After a hardcore cross-country trip to Calgary and Ottawa, all within 3 days, I'm back in my home sweet home.

My first time in Calgary, called Cowtown by the locals, left me with the friendliest impression. I finally met - in real life! - the two coolest tweeters I'm in contact with. How did it go? Awesome. How were they? More awesome. Are we going to meet again? Hell yes. Ottawa was yet again a short and busy trip, the highlight being its blue sky and work-related stuff.

See, I'm already getting better with my updates - this is, of course, if you even give a dime!

When the year 2011 began, I listed my yearly resolutions, one of which was writing more journal entries and cultural reviews as opposed to only poems and little quotes here and there.

Guess what? I’m about to start my project with a brief take on Kiarostmi's most recent film, "Certified Copy."

I stepped into the theatre, ignoring the movie critiques I had read and with no expectation whatsoever, and came out with a big smile on my face. The long shots; the beautiful script, switching dialogues between French, English and Italian; the brilliant performances by Juliette Binoche (no surprise!) and William Shimell; made it an altogether enjoyable viewing experience.

Unlike most people, I tend not to compare a movie to the director's previous projects. Even then, I would still give this a high rating amongst Kiarostami's other films.

... so yes, it was totally my cuppa.

I keep this "secretly/desirably" simple (make everything in past tense):

I break into the fragile snowflakes as I pass the same dodgy
mate in all his glory. I admire his reddish socks, adoring
the feather on his beige chapeau. Who bloody cares about
tonight's full eclipse? I still worship the virgin moon
as I wander under it with scattered thoughts. I stumble
along, growling and shaking. I'm lost. I'm found. I
repeat, "but I don't feel down." My companion tonight
is the taxi driver from Ghana. His random smile,
his ring tone, melt my hijacked heart; rescue
me from the nonsense terms that translate
into what we both learnt as lies.
Impatient, fearless, intoxicated;
I play tonight's song, and smile
big at our (long) overdue
yet predictable
rendez-vous.

on the idiot's no-brain; he talks about
his inner scars while the single-legged
wild pigeon is feeding the tobacco
ends - hundreds of them on the
cold concrete - to her little
ones. Yes, that's when
things start to fall
into the (not)
right path.
